Candlelight Holiday Special
December 19th to 22nd
This festive orchestral treat takes place at the Scott Block Theatre amid swathes of candles to set the mood. Get tickets for the Christmas Classics while they’re still available! The Nutcracker shows are already sold out, but plenty of themed candlelight serenades are scheduled this winter, from The Best of Hans Zimmer to Vivaldi’s Four Seasons.
Kids Christmas Cookie Class by Red Deer Food Bank Society
December 12 & 13
Support our local food bank by teaching the kiddos how to bake and decorate Christmas cookies! The Kids Christmas Cookie Class is $25 per child and includes all ingredients and materials. Classes are grouped by age: 6-8, 9-11, and 12-14. While you’re there, consider bringing some non-perishable food items to donate and help out our neighbours during the holidays.
December 15-21
Our amazing local florists at Calyx are 100% invested in the holiday season! They’re offering in-person workshops in their beautiful shop, creating outdoor wreaths, Whoville trees, festive centrepieces, and European miniature Christmas trees. There aren’t a lot of spots left for these workshops, so get in touch ASAP to book your session with friends, family, colleagues or other community members. The ladies at Cinch have already made their wreaths – now it’s your turn!
December 1-31
The Elf on the Library Shelf is back at the Dawe Branch from December 1 to 23. There are prizes every day in our Book Advent Calendar for anyone who spots him in the Dawe Branch and enters the draw.
Christmas Events by the City of Red Deer
All December
Speaking of holiday marketing, let’s hear it for the City of Red Deer! There’s so much for us to do this month in our own city, starting with a stroll in City Hall Park after dark (that’s around 4:30pm, in case you haven’t been paying attention ) to take in the amazing light display. Every tree, post and archway is draped with bright lights to bring cheer and joy to the gloom of deep winter. We really appreciate the effort!
For everyone excited to see Santa Claus this Christmas, Santa’s Bus Tour is coming to your neighbourhood on December 13th and 14th between 5:30pm and 8:30pm. Check out the bus route to make sure you don’t miss him! Of course, the kiddos are welcome to visit St. Nick during his regular visiting schedule at Bower Mall.
Coca-Cola Christmas Truck Appearances
December 12th and 14th
Holiday marketing’s biggest personality is definitely Coca-Cola. In addition to creating the modern aesthetic of Santa Claus himself starting in the 1930s, Coke has made an annual tradition of gracing the television screen with its iconic holiday trucks and picturesque winter villages. The Christmas trucks even tour the world for seasonal events, so if you get a chance, pop into Calgary to visit the Coca-Cola Christmas Truck!
